the college reserves the right to change esa policies and procedures without notice to ensure best practices for safety relative to covid-19 developments.
in response to covid-19, we ask students to maintain appropriate social distancing for their esas, including asking others not to pet or hold their animal. current evidence suggests that dogs and cats can become positive to covid-19 or carry droplets on fur that can be transferred from person to person. although the risk to animals appears to be low, we encourage esa owners to protect themselves, their animals, and their campus community.
current advice from the cdc and the american veterinary medical association suggests that individuals who have tested positive for covid-19 limit contact with their own pets and whenever possible have others provide their care.
if an esa owner becomes positive for covid-19 and is quarantined on the austin college campus, they will not be allowed to isolate with their animal and must arrange for the care of their animal off-campus.
